This week I attended a 90 min Mastery School at the Make Up Forever Dallas Store. If you didn’t know, Makeup Forever hosts 90 min classes on several topics at their stores in various cities. The class in Dallas is $25 which is a steal. Plus you get 20% off any products you want to buy, and they don’t have to be the ones used in class.
You get all the supplies you need to learn a technique and create a look. This is perfect for makeup enthusiasts like me who don’t have time to do a multiple week make up program. I went in to brush up on my highlighting and contouring skills but they have all kinds of classes such as pastel eyes, naturally you, prom look, etc.
I highly recommend these short lessons. The participants ranged from pro make up artists to beginners. And the instructor Laura Neely was awesome, she made the class highly interactive and fun.

Tips I Picked Up
- When applying a liquid foundation with a brush, start at the center of the face and then brush down. This will ensure any fine hairs on your face are under control.
- When applying a cream or powder contour use light downward brush strokes from your ear down to get the most product towards your temple. I tend to go back and forth with the brush like a maniac.
- Highlight (using a shade about 2 shades lighter than your skin tone) before you contour.
- When applying finishing powder, press it into the skin using a brush. DO NOT swirl the brush around. This will create a more natural look.
