This week’s favorite is a cleanser. An oil cleanser to be exact.
If you would have told me a year ago that I would be using oil to clean my face I would have cringed. I have combination acne-prone skin so I was convinced that I needed a cleanser specifically formulated for acne. For years I used the Neutrogena Oil Free Acne Wash. Regardless of what I changed in my routine, I NEVER changed my cleanser. That is, until I read The Little Book of Korean Skin Care (read that post here) and realized that all I was doing was stripping my skin of its natural oils. In fact, I was making my skin produce even more oil after leaving it so dry and dehydrated after cleansing.
I immediately researched more hydrating/nourishing cleansers and ended up buying the Boscia Makeup Breakup Cool Cleansing Oil. I have been using this for about 5 months now and I LOVE it. A couple of pumps is enough to remove a full face of makeup. But the best part is that my skin feels clean, soft and moisturized after using it.
I picked it as a favorite this week because I have been using a retinol cream (long story for another post) so my skin is extra dry and peeling in some places. By the time I take off my makeup in the evening, or when I wake up in the morning my skin is extremely dry and dehydrated. So much that I actually look forward to using this oil because it feels soo good. I always follow with a moisturizer, but just using this oil to cleanse my skin is enough to eliminate that horrible dry feeling.
If you have never used an oil as a cleanser, you should give it a shot. Once you splash your face with water, the oil actually begins to emulsify into a slight foam and washes right off. Note that this will only happen with oil based cleansers (not if you use a straight up oil such as coconut oil).
