I know, I know… I’ve been so bad about blogging lately. All I seem to manage these days are random weekly favorites and unpredictable Five on Friday’s. Work has been a little crazy and sadly the blog doesn’t take priority over other things like sleeping, living my life, etc. I’ve also started to see the uglier side of blogging lately – namely watching a few of the bloggers I follow get harassed by online trolls. I wish things like that didn’t put me off, but the truth is that they do. I never realized how much hate some bloggers seem to get from people hiding behind an anonymous screen name. It definitely makes me think twice about anything I post. But, that’s a topic that deserves it’s own post. On to today’s topic… The amazing Marc Jacobs Air Blush.
Confession: any time I purchase any luxury beauty itemmn ,s I secretly hope they won’t work out. First, because it makes for great beauty fails posts, and second because I don’t want to get addicted to insanely expensive products.
I ordered this Marc Jacobs Air Blush in the shade Lines & Last Night after hearing Paula from Thirteen Thoughts rave about this blush several times. Actually… I waited a while to get this. In fact, I put it in my cart several times and then decided against it. At one point my hubby asked me why I kept staring at pictures of a blush every night haha. After weeks of thinking about it I decided to finally take the plunge.
These blushes run at a whopping $42 a pop. That’s crazy expensive – however, the plan size of these blushes is pretty giant, they are 0.282oz while most other high end blushes are between 0.16-0.20oz.
There are five shades in the range (and each pan actually has two different shades in it).
Why I Love It
+ I actually really love that each pan has two shades. The darker shade is a bit more matte while the lighter shade is more luminous (similar to a highlighter). You can go deeper by keeping the brush around the deeper shade or get a more luminous finish by staying around the lighter. You can mix them equally, stay closer to the lighter side… the possibilities are endless.
+ The lighter shade of the Lines & Last Night and the Flesh & Fantasy shades can be used as subtle highlight
+ The texture of these blushes is amazing. The color payoff is great but they aren’t powdery at all. I can pile it on and it somehow still looks just radiant and luminous.
+ As I alluded to above, the finish of these blushes is beautiful. It’s luminous without being overly shiny or glittery. It’s similar to the finish you’d get with a cream blush, but with a powder. Although I have a few matte blushes that I like, the most natural looking blushes are those with a radiant finish. These are probably the most natural looking blushes I own.
+ The lasting power of these blushes is similar to my beloved TheBalm Instain blushes. They stay on ALL DAY.
+ I love the compact. I know some people don’t care about packaging, and when the price is low, I usually don’t either. But, when I’m paying $42 for blush, the compact better be nice. These compacts are gorgeous yet sturdy, and they have a great mirror.
+ The blushes are formulated without parabens, sulfates and phalates.
What I Don’t Like
+ Obviously the price is steep. Although these have quickly become one of my favorites, I wish the price was more comparable to other high end brands. On the bright side, the pans are giants.
What can I say? I love these. I wish I didn’t because they are SOO expensive. But, I loved Lines & Last Night so much that I ordered an additional shade – Flesh & Fantasy. I don’t think I’ve used any other blushes since I got these. ME! the girl that owns over 20 blushes… I love the colors, I love the formula, I love the finish and I love the lasting power. Are there other great blushes at lower price points? Yes, there are, but I don’t have anything quite like these which is saying a lot. So, if you are ever looking to treat yourself with a luxury makeup item – look into these blushes!
