It’s been a hot minute since I did a weekly favorite. I feel like I always end up talking about great products in other posts so they never end up being part of the series. But I love this Essence Liquid Lipstick so much that I felt like it deserved it’s own post.
As is the case many weekends, I found myself perusing the aisles at Ulta trying to figure out what to buy next. Essence is one of those brands that hasn’t been on my radar for very long so I was drawn to their display. I saw that their liquid lipsticks were $3.49 so I picked one up in the shade Beauty Secret 02. I figured if it didn’t work out I would only be out less than $4. The shade I picked is a very neutral pinky mauve shade.
I tried it on as soon as I got in my car and was surprised that this is pretty much a very pigmented lip-gloss. Since it’s called a liquid lipstick I thought it would dry matte as all other liquid lipsticks currently on the market. But as soon as I got over the initial shocked I realized how amazing it truly is.
Why I love it?
+ I have a hard time with traditional liquid lipsticks as they tend to be very drying on the lips. This product is very pigmented but since the finish is glossy it does not feel dry at all.
+ In terms of lasting power, the products from most to least lasting power are as follows: Liquid lipsticks, matte finish lipsticks, satin finish lipsticks, lip glosses & tinted balms. Given that the formula of this is like a lip-gloss, I thought it wouldn’t last very long. However, it is surprisingly long lasting. Even after drinking and eating I still have a little gloss left on my lips. It’s more comparable to a satin lipsticks in terms of durability.
+ This particular color is so pretty and flattering. It’s not too pink, not too dark and the tone is very neutral. I feel like I can wear this with a full face of makeup or on it’s own on a bare face.
+ The formula is super glossy but not sticky. I struggle with lip-gloss because I hate the sticky feeling or having my hair caught up on my lips. I usually only use this lip-gloss, but honestly the Essence formula is better.
+ The packaging is really pretty for such an affordable product. I actually like that there are no labels on it since those tend to wear away easily.
So, to sum it up, I LOVE this. I’ve literally worn it every single day for two weeks. It also reminded me that deep down, I am a glossy girl. Matte lips are nice for a change, but I much prefer a satin or glossy finish. And it seems like shiny, glossy pouts are back in fashion.
I am going to pick up all the other shades asap!
