Whoa, that’s a long blog post title. And I actually excluded a couple of words. The full product name is La Roche Posay Broad Spectrum Break Out Free Anthelios 60 Oil Free Dry Touch Sunscreen. I know, so complicated. I’m just going to call it the Anthelios Sunscreen for purposes of this post.
I’ve actually had this sunscreen for about 10 months now but for some reason I’ve never written about. It’s one of those products that’s always sitting on my vanity because I use it so often. So, when thinking about this week’s weekly favorite I finally remembered to share.
As I’ve mentioned several times on this blog, one of the worst symptoms of PCOS is acne. In fact, it was the horrible cystic acne that finally led to my diagnosis. But, even scarier than the acne itself, is the marks it leaves behind. And, as many of you know, the hyperpigmentation is magnified when your skin is exposed to the sun. Therefore, I take sun protection SERIOUSLY.
I bought the Anthelios sunscreen around May last year when my cystic acne was at it’s absolute worst. I had just started working out again in an attempt to manage all my symptoms, but was terrified of being outside in the sun. Plus, I was also terrified that a sunscreen would just aggravate the situation. Those were some stressful months. However, one day while browsing the travel size products at Ulta I saw this sunscreen. I was drawn by it’s breakout free claim so I bought it in desperation.
Keep in mind that La Roche Posay has a few products in the Anthelios line. This post is specifically on the Clear Skin Dry Sunscreen (the one that says Breakout Free).
Why I Love It
+ This is an SPF60 sunscreen which is much higher than most on the market. It’s definitely higher than the SPF in most make up products so it’s perfect for days I know I will be outdoors.
+ The formula is oil-free, fragrance-free, paraben-free and tested on sensitive skin. It is also non-comedogenic & water-resistant. I’m not sure what else you’d want with a sunscreen.
+ Even though the texture feels very creamy, it dries to a matte-powdery finish. My ultimate test with face products is whether my husband complains about it or not. He hates anything that feels tacky and/or looks shiny on his face. He doesn’t complain about this one at all.
+ This wears really well under make-up (probably because of the dry-touch finish).
+ It’s never aggravated my breakouts (or caused breakouts).
+ A little goes a long way. A 1.7 0z tube costs $19.99. I’ve had the same one since May and I’m just running out. I probably use it 2-3 times a week.
+ The size of the 1.7 oz tube is pretty great. It’s not large enough that you wouldn’t want to travel with it, but not small enough that you only get a few uses out of it.
What I Don’t Like
+ I alluded to this above, but the formula is definitely on the creamy/tacky side. Even though it spreads easily and dries matte, I would prefer if the formula were just a tad more liquid. I’ll usually either mix it with a drop of this, or spritz my face with a facial spray just before applying just so I can spread it a bit easier.
+ I wish they had another size. Now that I’ve gone through my first tube, I’d be inclined to purchase a larger size, but there isn’t one available.
Other than that, I don’t have anything negative to say. This is without a doubt the best face sunscreen I’ve tried. In fact, I don’t think I’ve used any other sunscreens since I purchase this. Highly recommend! Especially if you have acne prone skin.
