Hi Everyone! Happy Monday! Not to sound like a broken record here, but this is the first January in five years that I haven’t worked all weekend. And let me tell you… It’s THE BOMB. I’ve always appreciated weekends, but the weekends from now until March will be so much sweeter because I won’t be working 80 hour weeks. I’m sure all my friends still in audit want to punch me in the face right about now.
Anyways, yesterday was the hubby’s birthdays so it was amazing to be able to run errands and celebrate without stressing about work. I vividly remember last year coming home from work at 10:30pm and staying up until 1am baking a cake and getting things ready. What a difference a year (and a new role at work) makes. Granted, I decided against baking myself this year.
We started off the weekend birthday celebrations at the Happiest Hour downtown with Fernando’s coworkers. We spent most of the time exchanging stories and giving him a hard time. Poor guy haha.
Side note: Of course I don’t have a single picture of the evening. I’m seriously the worst at pictures/instastories/snapchat. It literally doesn’t occur to me to take pictures. It’s pretty unfortunate considering I have a blog, but it just doesn’t come naturally to me. I’m shocked when people walk into a bar/restaurant and before they even set their crap down they’re already taking a video or story for social media. I always wonder what their caption could possibly be if they haven’t even said hi to the people they are meeting. Anyways, I’m not saying I want to be the person pulling out the phone seconds upon arrival at a social gathering, but I do wish it would cross my mind to take pictures more frequently.
Saturday morning I went to an interval training class that kicked my butt. It was a 50 minute class but it felt like I was there for three hours. After that I ran a few errands, took pictures for the blog and worked on a few posts for the next couple of weeks. I’m really trying to make a cameo more often in my pictures vs just taking pictures of products. But, as I’ve mentioned before, I don’t have a personal photographer or even a freaking tripod so getting set up is a pain in the butt. I have a makeshift tripod made out of a stack of magazines and a stack of post-its (#professionalblogger).
I planned everything out so I would be ready to take pictures later in the day when they light would be better. It took at least an hour to do my hair & makeup, 20 min or so to get the camera set up, and then another hour taking the pictures. Of course I kept checking the pictures to make sure they looked ok.
All was going well until I actually saw the pictures on my laptop and realized that I was out of focus in 98% of them. FML. Since the viewer on the camera is so little, I couldn’t tell that I was out of focus the entire time I was taking pictures. The picture below is one of the “sharpest” ones of the bunch. Cringe.
All I can say is… this is why you usually won’t see me in my pictures. It takes so much time and is so much work. Ultimately, I spent 3 hours on the whole ordeal. I love this blog and all, but 3 hours for a couple of decent shots? I just can’t. Product shots are so much easier for me.
On that note, my birthday wishlist? I tripod… and maybe a ring light?
Sunday was the hubby’s actual birthday. I got up early (early for me at least) to put up some decorations and get his cupcake ready. After that, I made him breakfast (another shocker) and we hung out a little. I told him I just needed him to be ready around noon for a surprise.
I invited all him gaming buddies (yes, like online video games… they have a “team”) for an afternoon of uninterrupted game time. Lucky for me, inviting a bunch of guys over is less work than hosting a dinner party. Pizza, beer, doritos & cupcakes and I called it a day.
After I got everything set up, the guys came over and surprised him. As expected, they proceeded to spend the afternoon playing. I told them to enjoy it. I don’t plan to have 6 grown men playing video games in my house very often hehe.
At 6pm I kicked all the guys out so we could go to a nice dinner on our own.
And, because I couldn’t go on without a birthday shout out on the blog (for my only male reader):
Happy Birthday Babe, I love you more than words could say!
I’m linking up with Biana from BLoved Boston for today’s recap.
Have a great week everyone!
