Hi Everyone! Happy Monday (or not so happy for most of us since it’s the start of another workweek). The last couple of weeks have been a little out of the ordinary for me since I have been home in El Salvador. I am currently sitting at the airport in Houston waiting for my flight back to Dallas. Seems like a good time for a little weekend recap.
I am linking up with the lovely Biana from B Loved Boston.
As I mentioned a couple of times on the blog, my sister and I rushed to El Salvador a few weeks ago as our grandma was very ill. She passed away a few days after we arrived and I have been in El Salvador since. I won’t really say much more than that. Even though I’ve decided to share so much of my life on a blog, there is a whole family to think about in circumstances like these so I will just say that I am grateful that I was able to make it back to say goodbye. She passed surrounded by so much love and all her family. I hope we can all be so lucky. I will miss her so, so much.
My sister had to come back to Dallas for school last weekend so I decided to stay an extra week to be with my mom.
My husband flew to El Salvador last Thursday. We originally had planned to fly in to surprise my Dad for his 60th birthday. However, given my grandma’s health, my sister and I flew in over a week earlier. Fernando then flew in the week after in what would have been our original flight.
Obviously given the circumstances a big birthday celebration was no longer in order. But we did have a small celebration for my Dad.
My husband had the great idea to get him a drone. So after reading a ton of reviews on Amazon we ordered one for him. It has a little camera and can connect through wifi so you can stream the images to your phone. It was quite an experience trying to use it. It’s a lot harder to maneuver than we all anticipated so there was a ton of running around after it so we wouldn’t lose it. More than a few times it crashed into a tree or wall (like in the pictures below).
The one time I tried to fly it, I completely lost control and it flew over my parent’s house into an empty lot next door (although at the time we weren’t quite sure where it went). I thought for sure I had lost it. NEVER flying that thing again. Just a few hours after I left home on Sunday I got a text from my mom that the drone crash laded at the top of a tree and they couldn’t get it down. Note to self: when flying a drone, find a huge open area to practice.
That night I finally got my Hautelook package from my latest TheBalm Cosmetics order (my husband brought it in his suitcase). I got the Meet Matt(e)- Trimony eye shadow palette, the Balm Desert blush/bronzer and a couple of the Meet Matte Hughes liquid lipsticks. I’ve only tried the items a couple of times so far, but I am really happy with the purchases.
Friday was my grandma’s birthday so as soon as I finished working we went to the cemetery to bring her flowers. After that we had dinner with my grandpa to commemorate her birthday.
On Saturday there was some drone flying, lunch with the extended family and then dinner at my brother’s & sister in law. For desert they had chocolates and marshmallows for s’mores. And my mom had brought banana cream pie so of course I had to have both. On that note, there has been A LOT of eating and ZERO exercise the last two weeks. I really need to get it together now that I am back. Although that may prove difficult since I am going out of town for work all next week.
Oh yes, I almost forgot, Saturday was my sister’s birthday. Since she was back in Dallas we couldn’t celebrate with her. But we did send her a gift (from Sephora of course) and fresh baked cookies. I’m sure she would have preferred a bottle of tequila (she turned 21).
Sunday I had a lovely 4am wake up call for my flight. Due to the last minute nature of our trip I ended up having a 4 hours layover in Houston so it took all day to get home.
Although the last two weeks have been exhausting both physically and emotionally, I am grateful I was able to be home during this time. I am also glad to be back in Dallas and finally pick up Tuna. I missed her so much. But now I get to miss this little nugget that lives in El Salvador. You can’t ever win.
I hope you have a great week!
