Hi Everyone! I hope you had a nice weekend! Ours was a mix of errands, decorating, blogging and fun.
Friday as usual was pretty low key. We are usually so over the work week that it’s hard to get our butts anywhere. My husband ended up picking up a pizza from Whole Foods for us and we watched some TV. As a side note, we actually really like the pizza from Whole Foods. We usually get half pepperoni for the husband and half cheese for me. If we’re feeling extra fancy we’ll add ricotta on both sides.
On Saturday we woke up really excited that it was October 1st. We both love Halloween and this is our first year in a house so we’re pretty eager to decorate. I ended up buying Halloween decorations on Nov 1st last year when they were 50% off so I spent the morning putting up decorations.
In the end we didn’t feel that they were enough so we headed to Target to pick up a few extra items.
Actually, we were initially there to get an extension cord but somehow ended with a cart full of Halloween stuff. I found a ton of coupons on the Cartwheel app so we bought candy for trick or treater’s and pumpkins to carve. Target has the cheapest pumpkins I’ve seen for carving, they were $3.99 each for fairly large pumpkins plus 25% off with a Cartwheel coupon. We’re probably going to carve them next weekend. My husband has been thinking about what he is going to carve for months.
Last year as I was carving away a simple little ghost, he did this Yoda pumpkin:
Let’s just say he gets a little carried away. I’ll keep you posted on his pumpkin choice this year.
We also added this hanging skeletal creature to our tree. He ended up being $4.50 with a coupon at Target.
Since we haven’t been in this house for a year we don’t actually know if any trick or treaters are going to come by. Most of the neighborhood is young professionals and I don’t often see many kids. We’re hoping the decorations will encourage them.
Also, we are straight up giving them candy. No pencils, fruits or stickers will be handed out here 🙂
After decorating we had lunch/dinner at Gloria’s and ate way too much. They have some Americanized Salvadorian food. It’s not the most authentic, but it hits the spot when necessary. I freaking love plantains. And pupusas. It’s my favorite food ever.
On Sunday I worked out in the morning and then met some friends at the Rustic for drinks. They have these giant off the menu drinks that come topped off with a popsicle. Mine was a strawberry margarita with a lime popsicle.
It’s delicious but it’s very, very sweet. If I ever ordered another one I would probably share it with someone else. Also, we were a bit shocked at how limited their brunch menu is. You can either do brunch family style or get a burger. WTF. Most everything on the brunch menu has some kind of meat on it so if you’re a vegetarian you are essentially out of luck until 2pm when you can order from the rest of the menu.
After that we tried and failed to put up some of our Halloween lights and then I took a nap 🙂
Hope you had a great weekend!
