Before we get started with the weekend recap, I need to get something off my chest. How do people take good selfies or outfit pics? Can someone explain this to me? Do they walk around with a ring light or what? Where do they put the camera?
One of the things that made me nervous/self conscious about having a blog was having to post pictures of myself. Not because of a self confidence issue per se. But mostly because I am not the type of person who ever took a lot of pictures, let alone posted them on social media. My personal Instagram has less than 30 pictures and I’ve had it for 3 years… that averages 10 pictures a year. Obviously I’ve had to step up my game since blogging is very much a visual game.
So far I’ve been good about taking product pictures but suck at taking more personal pictures. So this weekend I thought I would document my make up and outfit…. 45 minutes and literally 89 pictures later I gave up. Within those 89 pictures I managed to take one in which my right leg looked twice as large as my left. How is that even possible? Mind you, the few decent pictures I salvaged from these are just pictures I am not totally embarrassed to upload, NOT pictures I like. So you best enjoy them. And if you need me today, I’ll be enrolling in a selfie-taking class.
Back To The Whole Recap Thing
Friday night we stayed in to watch the Olympics. What did we even do before the Olympics were on? I don’t know.
Saturday morning I thought I had signed up for a City Surf class (where apparently you work out on a surf board) only to show up and realize I didn’t actually hit the reserve button. Of course at that point the class was full. Thankfully I found a Zumba class that started an hour later in the same area. Except it wasn’t really a Zumba class, it was more of a Hip-Hop class with weights. I managed to make even more a fool of myself than usual when working out. I can’t seem to coordinate my arms and legs. I either follow the leg or arm movements in the choreography. I can’t do both. As the class went to the left, I went to the right. What can I say? I march to the beat of my own drum. Literally.
After class I make a quick stop at Walgreens “just to see” what they had. And of course I walked out with this Jordana mascara. I tried it Saturday night before dinner and it’s amazing! No wonder I had heard so many people rave about it. I only did one coat and that was enough for me. The formula reminds me of this cult favorite mascara but without the flaking. It cost me less than $3. Below is my attempt to document such mascara (#fail).
When I got home I also found this lovely contraption waiting for me. A few weeks ago I wrote a review on the Foreo Luna Mini (read that here). Even thought I loved the Luna, it died after only a few uses. Unwilling to buy another $139 cleansing device I decided to look for an alternative. My friend Daniella had mentioned that the $37 Solo Mio was a dupe. It has really good reviews on Amazon so I almost bought it. But then, I saw on the suggested product a very similar looking version for $18.52. So of course I went with the cheapest option and bought this one.
I have only used it a few times but so far it feels exactly like the Luna! On another note, I knew immediately that this was made in China since the packaging claimed this would speed up your metabolism lol. What the heck? I wonder if they were trying to say this would increase blood circulation on your skin?
Saturday night we went to dinner with the husband at True Food Kitchen in Dallas. The menu is based on an anti-inflammatory diet and all items are supposed to be healthier than traditional restaurants. Overall the drinks and food were good and I like the idea that stuffing my face with pizza wasn’t that bad.
His face when I told him I would take a picture -__-
And it’s great that the pizza was “healthy” because the very next day we asked our friend Hannah where she wanted to celebrate her birthday and she picked True Food haha. We didn’t say anything until we were already there because Hannah is the nicest person I know and if she knew we had been there the night before she would have picked something else.
It was a lovely night celebrating our lovely friend (Happy Birthday Hannah! we <3 you!).
