Hi Everyone! Happy Monday! Welcome to the new- mostly functional Just A Little Blush. As you can see, there are quite a bit of changes around here. New logo, new layout, slightly new color scheme…. and a ton of new problems haha.
I’ve been thinking of giving Just A Little Blush a makeover for quite some time. Therefore, I’ve been working on the logo and looking at new templates for a couple of months. Since I’m taking a few days off work, I planned on getting everything ready to redo the theme and layout. In fact, I specifically planned for plenty of time since I know almost nothing about coding or even WordPress. Almost a year later and I’m still not 100% sure what WordPress even is. I feel the same about it as I do about all the cooking contraptions in my kitchen. I’m sure they’re important, but not sure what they do.
Anyways, I envisioned doing this slowly and working through any issues on my days off. I would then write a special relaunch post with all the details. It was going to be great.
This weekend I finally invested in a new computer to use solely for Just A Little Blush and that’s really when it all went downhill.
It’s hard to articulate exactly what happened. Somehow while setting up my admin dashboard on the new computer I reinstalled WordPress on my domain. This effectively WIPED OUT Just A Little Blush. Everything from content, theme, pictures, comments, EVERYTHING. If any of you visited some time Saturday afternoon/evening you may have seen a generic picture of a cactus and a “Welcome to Just A Little Blush” title. Nothing else. Cue in major panic.
The panic was so intense that even my hubby went into a sympathetic panic. He frantically googled while I stared at my screen in complete disbelief.
Thankfully, I recently backed up my content so I knew I could at least save the individual posts.
After we both chugged some rum and coke & regulated our breathing again we decided that although premature, the makeover needed to happen now. It was going to be almost as much work to try to set up my old theme & layout than to just go with a new theme and layout.
So, with almost zero planning, I finished the logo design, purchased a new WordPress theme, edited the homepage pics and started updating everything. All the while having no idea what 80% of the words in the instructions meant and using a brand new computer I’m not used to. It was a nightmare.
I finally uploaded my blog backup, but I lost ALL the featured images from every single post. As in, 152+ posts now have no main picture to display. Again #nightmare.
That in combination with getting a new theme and layout sorted made for an intense Saturday. In the meantime, Just A Little Blush has been live the entire time (because I have no freaking clue how to make it private) so all the versions I’ve gone through in the last 48 hours have been open to the world. I literally cringe. So, if you visited this weekend and saw some strange shit… I apologize, but it’s essentially a one woman show over here. A very inexperienced woman’s show.
So, where are we now?
Well, the new layout is somewhat done. I still have new pages that I’ll be adding, pictures that will be linked to those pages and small details to get sorted. If something doesn’t seem to work, I’m sorry! But PLEASE send me an email. I may not be able to fix it lol, but I will certainly try.
All my old posts are alive, although sans featured images. I’m going back and adding pictures (at least for those that I still have pictures), but I’m drawing the line at some point for very old posts. I can’t possibly find, edit, resize and upload pictures for all 152 posts #bloggeroftheyear.
Even though the makeover isn’t what I envisioned, it is here, everything mostly works and I’m excited!
