Welp, it turns out that Tuna (our dog) has a kidney stone that is taking up 60% of her bladder…
It all started with what appeared to be a bladder infection that would not let up. After another vet trip and a series of x-rays the vet informed us that she had a sizable kidney stone. However, he sent us home with antibiotics and new dog food.
But she didn’t get better. She appeared to be getting worse. After a series of frustrating calls to the vet we decided to get a second opinion. And I am so, so glad we did. The second vet explained how big the stone truly was and that it was unlikely to dissolve with food and antibiotics. Further, given the size of the stone it’s likely damaging the walls of her bladder and causing Tuna pain.
Ultimately she recommended surgery as soon as possible so we scheduled her for today. Apparently it’s a very simple procedure that will take 45 minutes total. Once the kidney stone is out they will send it to a lab to determine what type it is. Once we know, the vet will determine whether it’s likely to recur and we can adjust her diet to prevent another one.
I can’t wait to get the call that the procedure is over and she’s doing well. Hopefully we can bring her home today. This just goes to show you how important it is you follow your gut. If we would have stayed with our previous vet, we’d continue hoping the stone would dissolve, all while her bladder suffered.
Other weekend recaps
Other than the whole ginormous canine kidney stone debacle we had a pretty low-key weekend. Friday we ordered pizza and binged on Season 1 of Lost. I’m surprised my husband and I found a show we can watch together other than The Walking Dead or The Bachelorette. I know he’ll deny watching The Bachelorette but I always catch him paying attention to it when I watch it haha (love you babe).
On Saturday I visited my friend’s adorable two month old. He let me hold him without crying for almost an hour. I’m pretty sure that’s the longest I’ve ever held a baby in my entire life.
Sunday I tried out a different cycling class at Fly Wheel and then my some friends for drinks. Of course crab purse made another appearance and I had a delicious passion fruit mojito.
Lastly, if you follow me on instragram @justalittleblush (#shamelessplug) you’ve seen a few posts on some drugstore purchases. I’m testing out quite a few products and so far everything has worked out really well. Specially this $1.99 eye shadow that doubles as a highlighter. I’ll have a post on those soon!
Hope everyone’s weekend was great (minus the doggy surgery part).
