A few months ago I was ecstatic to see that The Balm brand products were on Hautelook. All items were marked 50% of their regular price.
Naturally I hinted to my husband that this would make for a lovely birthday present. Naturally, I sent my husband a detailed list of which items I wanted for my birthday.
As always, my decision on which products to buy was based on what I heard through the grapevine. And by grapevine, I mean YouTube*.
*Yes, the amount of time I spend watching favorites videos on YouTube is concerning.
The verdict is below:
The Instain Blush in Pinstripe – I have professed my love for this blush here. The color is rich and beautiful, and the formula has impressive staying power. Although I really took a gamble on this purplish color, it paid off as I had nothing like this in my collection.
Betty Lou Manizer – One of the three “Manizer” sisters. The shade of this product is hard to describe. Its not quite a bronzer, but not a highlighter either. If a bronzer and a highlighter had a baby, this would be it. I use this lightly as an all over bronzer to give my face some color, or to soften a harsh looking contour. Deeper skin tones could use this as a highlighter.
Mary Lou Manizer – The second sister in the Manizer series. This is a nice highlighter. The formula is creamy and has good staying power. I have it as a “Like” and not a “Love” as I personally prefer the shade and formula of my beloved Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal. This one is a little lighter in color and slightly more shimmery than the Becca one. If you don’t own any highlighters and want to try one I would definitely recommend this one as the price point is much better than any of the Becca highlighters, especially if you wait for it to go on Hautelook.
Bahama Mama Bronzer – I was torn between love and like on this one. In fact, I moved it up and down in categories a couple of times. What can I say? I love a lot of products. The packaging, formula and color on this bronzer is on point. The shade is cool enough to contour with, but warm enough to use on its own as a bronzer. Plus its matte.
What is your Type? Tall, Dark & Handsome Mascara – I had high hopes for this as the brush is a rubbery material which I tend to favor with mascaras, but this did not give my lashes any definition. I am not sure if its the formula or the brush itself but I have other mascaras that do a better job. On the bright side, this did not flake and held up for about 7 hours.
Overall I was very pleased with my purchases. The formula on all the powder products is creamy, pigmented and long lasting. The packaging is adorable and extremely travel friendly (all powders have a mirror). And as an added plus, the brand is paraben and cruelty free.
I have seen The Balm pop up on Hautelook several times in the past so if you are on the fence about purchasing I would hold off until they come back.
Hope this roundup was helpful. If there are any other brands you would like to see a roundup for, please leave a comment down below. This may just turn into a series….
