Either my post titles are too short, or (like today) they are too long. But I’m done worrying about SEO and Pinterest worthy blog titles. If I need to spend more than a few minutes thinking about the title, I’m just going to go with the default. And in this case the default is really long product names haha. So, today we’re talking about the Stila Lash Primer and Huge Extreme Lash Mascara. Stila gifted both of these during one of the Dallas Blogger Brunches and I’ve been testing them out every since.
Although we got these in a little set, they are sold separately at Sephora. The Lash Stunner Lash Primer costs $26 while the Huge Extreme Mascara costs $23. The lash primer is a creamy, brown shade with small fibers that are meant to add volume to your lashes prior to applying mascara. The mascara itself claims to be a volumizing lengthening and curling mascara. The wand is an hourglass shape (similar to the Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara).
+ These two products work really well together. I get quite a bit of volume and length when using these together. It would take several coats of another mascara to get this effect.
+ I love that the primer has a brown tint. So many of the lash primers I’ve tried are white and obviously leave a white tint on my lashes. I’m then stuck trying to get every single angle of my lashes with mascara to disguise that. The Stila primer is a nice dark brown shade so I don’t have this issue.
+ I’ve tried the primer with other mascaras and it seems to work just as well. I.e. you don’t have to purchase both of them to get the effect. Keep in mind however that it only works well with regular synthetic wands (NOT rubberized wands).
+ I used the primer on my eye brows and it worked nicely to fill them in prior to applying my tinted eye brow gel. I like a good multipurpose product.
+ I’m not a fan of the mascara itself. It’s not bad, but it’s not great. I can list at least 5 drugstore mascaras that I like just as much (if not more) that this one. And they cost a lot less than $23.
+ The hourglass shaped wand of the mascara is too fat for me to use on my lower lashes. I’d prefer a regular shaped wand (like the primer has).
+ I can’t pin point whether it’s the primer, or the mascara, but this combo irritates my eyes a bit. It’s really strange since I don’t often come across mascaras that irritate my eyes, but somehow this combo does.
If I had to rate these from 1 to 10 (10 being the highest), the primer would be around an 8 while the mascara would be a 5. If anything, I would repurchase the primer. Although I’m not big on lash primers, this is probably the best one I’ve tried. The mascara on the other hand? I’d pass, it just isn’t my favorite. So, if you are going to buy any of these, I’d go with the primer hands down.
Do you always use a lash primer? I’m a big believer in face primers, but for some reason I don’t use lash primers as much. Any other lash primers out there I should try?
