In case the title of this post didn’t give it away…we’re having a baby! My hubby and I are expecting a little nugget this summer. This post is quite a bit later than most people announce (we are around half way there at this point). But, better late than never right?
I’ve been thinking a lot about this post, what to share and what not to share about this journey, but the truth is, I don’t know exactly yet. If you would have asked me a year ago if I would share a pregnancy & baby on the blog, my answer would have been absolutely yes. For some strange reason, I’ve always loved reading pregnancy updates and birth stories on other people’s blogs. I thought I would have followed the same path. However, my instinct the last few months has been the complete opposite.
It somehow doesn’t feel right to share much right now. And although our feelings may change in the future, we’ve decided generally to keep baby very private for now. I know everyone is different, and what is right for one family may not be the right thing for others. But, we’ve decided to keep the baby’s social media footprint as small as possible for now. This applies to the blog and our private social media accounts.
So, what does that mean for the blog? I’m not sure. I’m going to follow the same approach I have for the last few months and just blog when I feel like it. Maybe I’ll do a pregnancy update at some point, maybe I won’t. We’ll just have to see how it goes.
But for now, I’ll keep it short.
As I mentioned above, we’re about half way through with the pregnancy and feeling pretty good. Baby was a big surprise to both of us, so much so that we didn’t tell a soul for three months haha. Let’s just say our parents weren’t too happy that we withheld the news for so long.
The first trimester went pretty smoothly with very minimal nausea. The worst part was probably some insomnia and crazy skin itching. Actually the itchiness continues… However, I fully expected to feel like crap the entire time so I’m super grateful that didn’t happen. So far the second trimester has also treated me well and I’m not really dealing with any tough symptoms.
We opted to do a genetic screening test through a blood test to find out the gender pretty early in the process. Again, in a strange twist, we decided not to make an event out of it. No gender reveals or parties for us. We opened the results just the two of us at home on a Monday night. We didn’t tell anyone for a few days and I’m so glad we didn’t. We’re really taking time to process and enjoy things privately right now. And, in case you haven’t guessed, I will not be sharing gender or names on the blog (not that we even have a name). At least not at this point. I know, what a party pooper…
In terms of baby prep – we’re not doing so good haha. We’ve barely bought anything and have little plans for a nursery. As if the baby bombshell wasn’t enough, we are going to be moving to a new house this summer. Unfortunately the timing isn’t settled yet so we don’t know where exactly we will be welcoming baby at this point. Not knowing where we will be makes planning a nursery a tad difficult. So far I’ve only bought super cute, but probably really impractical baby things like a crab hat and Christmas clothing for next year. I should probably get something useful like diapers and a crib.
In terms of the other topics I usually blog about, I’m just not sure. I haven’t felt like blogging regularly these days and I’m ok with that. We’ll just have to see how things go the next few months!
