Hi Everyone! This weekend seriously flew by in the blink of an eye. But having a Sunday afternoon flight to catch may do that to you… I have training in another one of our offices all week starting bright and early on Monday so I had to take a Sunday flight. That and tons of time with friends made the weekend feel like it was half a day long.
I remember back in the day when I actually enjoyed traveling for work. I gleefully racked up frequent flyer miles and hotel points left and right. Now, it’s a different story. I hate leaving Tuna and the husband home and I couldn’t care less about the traveling perks. But ask me again once my Gold status expires at the end of the year…
Anyways, after being out of town for a couple weeks, this weekend was all about reconnecting with friends. On Friday I met up with the girls for drinks and dinner at the Brain Dead Brewery in Deep Ellum. Two of my closest friends got engaged a few weeks apart so there’s lots of wedding talk going on during our dinners. It’s looking like there will be a fun destination wedding for us to go to next year.
For some reason we all decided to be healthy and ordered some type of vegetable as an entrée. I got some delicious brussel sprouts with dried cherries, pecans and cheese. Even though I don’t like pecans themselves, I love the flavor they give food when they are cooked with it.
Since we were so healthy at dinner I insisted we get a slice of pie for dessert. An Emporium Pies just recently opened in Deep Ellum so of course we had to go. If you live in the Dallas area and haven’t had a slice of pie from Emporium Pies, you aren’t truly living. There is one location in the Bishop Arts district and now one in Deep Ellum. Both locations are so adorable and somehow fit in with the general vibe of each area. I scarfed down a Lord of the Pies (apple pie). The picture speaks for itself.
Saturday morning I met up with my friend Jessie for a long overdue coffee date at Houdstooth Coffee. The coffee is good, but not as good as my Salvadoran coffee. Jessie and I hadn’t seen each other in a month or two so we had tons to catch up on. She’s my go to person when Tuna does something disgusting like get diarrhea on our shag rug (true story) or steal & eat a giant macadamia cookie from a purse that was on the bed. She also adopted a pup, Miko, so there is always a decent amounts of pup stories. I spent the rest of the day working on the blog and then went to a cycling class.
As Halloween falls on a Monday this year we decided to celebrate Saturday night. And by celebrate I mean dress up in costumes for no good reason at all. What are we even celebrating for Halloween? Who knows, but we love it. Fernando started thinking about our costumes months ago and for some reason he decided that we should dress up as the same thing. He is obsessed with Shark Week so, naturally, we were sharks. That includes poor Tuna who HATES being dressed up. Once we were ready we put on her costume for a few minutes to take some pictures. She was miserable the entire time.
After that we headed to a bar to meet up with some friends. Initially as we walked towards the bar we were originally meeting we didn’t see anyone else in costume. I chickened out since everyone appeared to be wearing regular clothes and we were dressed as sharks… Fortunately, there is a bar right across the street and we could see tons of people in costume so we headed in there. We even ran into a group of 6-7 sharks. The drinks were good and the grilled cheese we ate was even more delicious. Overall it was a great night.
Yesterday I woke up early for a workout class. Note to self, don’t sign up for a workout at 10am the morning after going out. But, I made it to class and even resisted the urge to eat a handful of all the candy they had set out. On that note, why do they have fancy chocolate available at a fitness studio? After that I packed, edited pictures for the blog and went to the airport.
This will be a pretty busy week since training doesn’t seem to erase all my other obligations at work. I sense a few late nights. However, I will still have posts up tomorrow, Thursday and Friday including my picks for the Sephora VIB Sale.
I am linking up with Biana from BLoved Boston.
I hope you have a great week!
