Today I can truly say Fri-yay! as I am taking the day off from work and my parents are in town! My sister is moving to Dallas to attend SMU so they are here to visit us and to help settle her in. She’s actually going to live about 10 min away from us so we will be seeing her quite often.
My Dad hasn’t been in Dallas since before we bought a house last year so we are excited that he is finally here!
Give me all the vacation! Because my husband and I are taking a quick four day trip to San Francisco in a couple of weeks and we are going to France and Italy in November. Both trips will be a little rushed (for different reasons) so we are thinking of just bringing one carry on each. The horror!
I’m seriously considering buying these packing cubes after reading about them on Nicole’s blog (here). Anyone else try them? I am also thinking I need this packable down jacket since a regular coat would take up half of my precious real estate. It was on sale during the Nordstrom’s sale but I couldn’t get it in my size 🙁
I really enjoyed reading this post by Katie from katieelizabethblog.com. Obviously I recently started blogging so I can’t say that I miss the old days of blogging per se. But I have been reading a lot of blogs for a long time and I do miss the simpler blogs. In recent months I’ve stopped reading blogs I followed for years because every other post was sponsored, or the blog became too impersonal. In fact, the more successful some blogs become, the less I find myself reading them. They become too commercial and I lose sight of the person behind the blog.
I understand this is how a lot of people make a living and that is incredible in itself. But if I can’t connect to the blogger I’ll probably visit less and less.
I usually start every post by thinking about the type of post I would like to read myself. I hope to never lose sight of that as I continue on this blogging journey.
I’ve been so, so good about working out lately that I can’t even believe it myself. But for the most part, the cards below describe all my feelings towards it:
About two weeks ago the most putrid smell started coming from our water heater. Naturally, we immediately googled “water heater smells like poop”. Unfortunately, despite our top notch research skills and watching videos on youtube we couldn’t figure out what was causing the smell. So of course I went on Yelp to find a plumber (how did people decide where to eat, what doctor to go to, etc. before Yelp?).
My chosen plumber Pablo was so great that he couldn’t come out here until yesterday. For two weeks we lived with the smell. It was so bad that we put a towel to block the space between the door and the floor of where the heater is to prevent the smell from spreading. I even bought cat litter and put it in a box in the closet in hopes it would absorb some of the smell.
After two weeks, I convinced myself that only something terribly wrong could be causing such a horrible smell… Until Pablo showed up, poured a little water down the drain and solved the problem in 30 seconds. Apparently the water that is supposed to sit in the drain trap to prevent the sewage smell from coming up the drain had evaporated. So the grand solution? Pour a little more water down there.
So, before any of you pay anyone $65 to pour water down the drain, if it smells like sewer in your house, check that there is water in all your drain traps and and see if that solves the problem.
Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! We’ll be here enjoying the “fresh” air!
