Hi Everyone! This weekend was (thankfully!) really slow other than a movie and brunch with friends so I’ll forgo a recap today. However, since we are only a few days away from our trip to Europe I thought I would share my Euro Trip Purchases. These are all items I’ve recently purchased for our trip. And no, not one is a makeup item. I seem to be fully stocked in travel mini’s at the moment.
Michael Kors Quilted Jacket
Our trip happens to fall during the rainy season in Italy. Although it won’t be freezing, it will be chilly and we need to be prepared for some rain. None of my jackets seemed like they would be warm enough, and my wool coat is too formal and too bulky. Plus it wouldn’t be ideal in the rain. We are also going to be in Paris for a day (yes just a day – tres sad) and it will be much cooler there so I need something warmer than a simple rain jacket or trench coat.
I started looking for something lightweight, casual but not too casual, water resistant, with a hidden hood and that I would continue to use after my trip. It was a struggle. Most items I found on Northface, Columbia or Patagonia were too casual/sporty for my taste or way too expensive.
And then this Michael Kors jacket finally came on sale for $139 at Nordstrom. It meets all the requirements above and I love the gold accents. I can roll it up without it wrinkling, it’s machine washable and water resistant. Is it going to keep me dry if a huge downpour comes upon us? Probably not. But it will be good enough for the light rain we are expecting. I got mine in a medium and there is still plenty of room to layer if I wanted to wear a thick sweater under.
UGG Amie – Classic Slim Water Resistant Short Boot
Am I too old for UGGs? They seem like such a college boot that I actually wonder haha. My old UGGs are so deformed and shapeless that I am too embarrassed to wear them anymore. Even though they were good to me for many years, I never thought I would but another pair because they are so bulky and honestly not the best walking shoe. The classic UGGs have absolutely no arch support and usually result in chicken legs.
But then UGG came out with a slim fit version of their most popular boots. AND, as a major bonus, they added a very slight wedge plus a little arch support. Finally! They are also pre-sprayed to be water resistant which will be perfect for our trip.
I went and tried these on at Nordstrom and they are in fact slimmer than the classic boots. They toes are also shaped nicer (& slimmer). Although the wedge doesn’t really add very much height, it does make them more comfortable to walk in. I originally bought them in grey suede but then changed my mind and went for the classic Chesnut suede color. They do run small so order a half size up!
Gillette Venus Snap Razor
So random but I actually bought this razor thinking about our trip. It’s in much shorter and more compact than the regular Venus razors but uses the same replacement blade size. It also comes in a little plastic case that has little holes so the razor can breathe and dry. Genius.
I couldn’t help myself and started using it as soon as I got it. The handle itself is so much better than the regular full size handle. It’s much more ergonomic and easier to control since it’s shorter. This is how the regular razor should be designed!
I will be using this on a daily basis going forward even though I originally bought just for travel.
Cliff – Luna Smore’s Bars
Yes I know, there will be plenty of delicious food where we are going. But, on our last few trips I’ve always packed us a few snacks and they’ve been life savers. We’ll eat them on the plane, on really early or late flights, on the train, etc. Any type of bar snack won’t take up a lot of space, and they aren’t heavy so it can’t hurt to bring them along.
I love these Luna S’Mores bar’s. They have graham crackers, chocolates and marshmallow and are super filling. Each bar has 190 calories and 9g of protein which is pretty good for a snack. I’ve tried a few other flavors and brands of similar “whole nutrition” or protein bar and these are by far the most delicious ones.
Orla Kiely Weekender Cosmetic Bag
This was actually a last minute purchase this week. I already have a ton of makeup and toiletry bags but none of them can fit my makeup plus the rest of my toiletries (shampoo, lotion, face wash, etc.). While at Target I spotted a ton of bright colored travel bags and headed straight for them (yes, sometimes I feel like a 5 yr old). This weekender bag has three separate compartments. One has a mesh lining, presumably for items that are damp? or that don’t have an explosion risk? The second compartment actually seems like it would be for makeup brushes based on the design. It includes a cover that would go over the brush heads to protect them. The last compartment is plastic and would be best for any items that may spill or explode.
It fits my makeup and the rest of my items, and because of the handles, I can easily hang it from a door knob or hook in case there is limited counter space in the bathroom.
Anything else I should be buying last minute?
