Happy Monday Everyone!
Ok, let’s be real. Monday isn’t really happy for anyone. BUT this will be a short week for us since we are taking off to San Francisco at the end of the week!
This weekend was pretty uneventful (other that me being a grandma and feeling super hung over on Saturday after having two, yes JUST two drinks on Friday night and staying out until 1am) so instead of doing a recap I figured I’ll write a product review.
I’ve bought so many new products to review over the last couple of months that I haven’t written about. So, this week, I am making up a new series and will review one product per day until Thursday. I’m praying to the literary gods that these will be short, sweet & to the point!
To kick off the series I’ll start with the product I’ve had the longest.
Too Faced Born This Way Foundation Review
This is one of those products that I really waited to purchase. It was out for at least I year before I took the plunge. Even though I heard about how amazing it was over and over again, I didn’t purchase since I had so many other foundations. What actually triggered my purchase was that I realized it is oil-free.
Not to sound like a broken record here but my skin has been on a rollercoaster ride the last 7-8 months. After years of good skin my body decided it was time to pay for skipping the teenage acne phase.
Anyways, I am applying a couple of prescription topicals that really dry out my skin. But, given the breakout situation I need to be careful with any products with oil, particularly mineral oils.
I knew this foundation was hydrating, so when I also found out it was oil free I sprinted to Ulta to buy it.
It has the following claims:
+ Full, but undetectable coverage
+ Infused with coconut water to replenish skin’s moisture levels
+ Infused with the resilient Alpine Rose to brighten the skin’s appearance and promote elasticity
+ Hyaluronic Acid provides long-lasting, skin-balancing hydration for a smoother, more youthful appearance
So now, to my thoughts:
What I like about it:
+ This is truly one of the most skin-like foundations I have. The finish is very natural and lives up to its “born this way” claim
+ Although oil free, this product is quite hydrating. Even on days I have dry patches, it doesn’t cling to them or accentuate them
+ The color range is good
+ The packaging is great & the foundation comes with a pump
+ The smell is really nice, it smells exactly like coconut water
+ It has a satin finish. It’s not dewy but it’s not matte either. Aka it has the perfect amount of glow for my taste. Think Kendal Jenner type glow.
+ There are no sulfates or parabens in this product and it’s not tested on animals
What I don’t like about it:
+ For some reason this foundation never truly sets on me. Even if I apply a translucent powder on top it never sets. What I mean by this, is that if I touch my face, some of the foundation will come off.
+ The lasting power on this (for me) is 4-5 hours at most.
+ This can be good or bad depending on your preference but the coverage on this is really medium (not full). I have a lot of hyperpigmentation happening on my face these days and this foundation doesn’t completely cover that. I have to go in on top with a concealer.
+ I wouldn’t say this product is buildable. I can get away with applying two layers max but it doesn’t look great.
+ There is no spf (which can also be good and bad depending on your preference)
How & When I use it:
+ I prefer to use this with a damp beauty blender. If I use a brush, it usually leaves a ton of brush strokes.
+ Because of my hyperpigmentation, I use about 3-4 pumps. That may be a lot for some of you but I also take my foundation all the way down my neck so that is how much I need to spread it around.
+ Given my thoughts above, I usually wear this foundation when I only need my make up to last for a shorter period of time. For example, if I am going out to dinner with friends or out to brunch.
So much for short & sweet reviews haha.
I really like this foundation, I know I mentioned a lot of things I don’t like, but I was trying to be thorough. This is currently my go-to product when going out at night or any special events because of the skin like finish. I also like that it doesn’t irritate my skin. And given all the crap going on with my face right now I feel good about applying a product without all the yucky stuff that still keeps my skin hydrated.
That being said, this foundation would be perfect for those with dry to combination skin. AND for people who don’t have a lot of imperfections they are trying to cover. When you apply only a thin layer of this it looks FLAWLESS.
If you have oily skin or a lot of hyperpigmentation like me it may move around too much or you may need multiple layers which don’t look great.
I hope this is helpful if you were considering this foundation! Feel free to leave a comment down below or email any questions!
Stay tuned for the next product review tomorrow. I promise it will be shorter 😉
