I’m so glad I’m finally writing this post! As the title implies, I’m going through 7 all time beauty favorites. BUT, it’s not my 7 all time beauty favorites, it’s my friend’s favorites. I figured at this point some of you may be over of hearing about my favorites. So, a few weeks ago I asked some of my friends to contribute to the great piece of literature that is Just A Little Blush and write about their favorites. The question is simple, what is your all time favorite beauty product? If you had to pick just one (or in Wendy’s case… two) products for life, what would they be and why?
I met Naush a little over six years ago in Austin while getting our masters of accounting (#nerds). I’ll never forget how our Finance professor would ALWAYS user her last name as the fake company name. We both ended up accepting job offers in Dallas at the same firm & we’ve been close ever since.
Her Pick: Clinique’s Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel – $26
“The Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel is something I can’t live without. If I had to use one skin care item for the rest of my life, this would be it. I use it on my face on a daily basis with or without makeup to make sure my skin is moisturized and soft. I’ve been using it for more than 10 years especially after seeing my mom using it. She still uses it today and swears by it. I have pretty sensitive skin that is prone to breakouts so this is a godsend. It doesn’t prevent breakouts, but it keeps them in check when it does happen! “
Where do I start with Wendy? Well, we met on our very first day at work five years ago. I want to say we sat next to each other at training? Wendy’s been my friend, my roommate, my bridesmaid & technically now she’s my client (I’m a project manager for her engagement). We’re so close that she’s even let me cut her hair a few times. We got lucky (or unlucky depending on how you view this) since my hubby and her fiancé became BFFs after realizing they love the same video game.
Her Pick: Kat Von D Tattoo Liner – $20
“As much as I’ve tried to sport a no liner, natural and fresh look as my “everyday look,” it’s always resulted in my eyes looking tired and me looking overall not-put-together. Therefore, a good eye-liner that’s manageable and easy to apply has always been a must for me. I love the way liquid liners look, but I’ve never mastered the application process and find it difficult to achieve a thin but bold line for everyday wear when using liquid liners. Pencil eyeliners don’t give me the bold color I’m looking for, and oftentimes smear or run. As a result, I’ve gravitated towards the marker-like eye liners, which have fallen short in either color richness, or wear time through my 12 hour workdays. To my luck, Kat Von D’s Tatto Liner has solved my problem. It is rich in color, lasts all day, doesn’t smear or run, and is SO EASY to apply. It has a brush tip (sort of marker-like) that really glides easily through my lid to create my everyday look. Further, when feeling daring, it also is manageable enough to help me achieve a bolder line for my night look. “
And her second pick: L’Oréal Visible Blur Lift Concealer – $12.99
“I have THE WORST under eye dark circles – I can sleep a week straight and still look sick or tired. I used to spend up to $40 on high end concealers that were very thick and uncomfortable to wear. I tried this concealer on accident when I forgot my makeup bag on a trip I took with my sister. This was her “extra” concealer. I loved it. It really has a full coverage and is surprisingly very light. I love that it comes in a package containing a pretty generous amount of product. It lasts me up to 6 months, even though I use the concealer for my dark circles and also as a highlight color when contouring.”
I met Sofia the day she was born (literally the day she was born…. she’s is my younger sister). Given that she’s been around for the last 21 years of my life I’d say we’re pretty close. She even decided she couldn’t be without us and moved 3 miles. By day she’s an SMU student, but by night (and I guess also by day) she instagrams workouts, healthy recipes & fitspo on her Instagram @espohealthy.
Her Pick: Nyx Micro Brow Pencil – $9.99
“My all time favorite product is the NYX Micro Brow Pencil in Chocolate. I have repurchased this product a million times because it is affordable, creamy, easy to use, and a perfect dupe for the Anastasia Beverly Hills brow pencil. I’ve tried other drugstore brow products, including the Maybelline brow pencil, and all of them are rough and patchy. I love how the Nyx Micro Brow Pencil includes a spooly and is a twist up (no need to deal with sharpening). This is highly recommended for all the brow lovers out there who are looking for awesome and perfect brows on a budget.”
Hannah and I also met on our first day at work five years ago & have been friends ever since. We were also neighbors at one point after I got married and kicked Wendy out of the apartment. Hannah & Wendy moved in to the apartment next door. As in, we shared a wall. It was all very Friends like (without the lounging all day at Central Perk part). We have jobs after all. Also, random fact: if given enough drinks, Hannah can mimic any accent.
Her Pick: Organic Coconut Oil – $5.49
“My pick is coconut oil, I have been using it on my face to moisturize at night. It keeps my skin hydrated, doesn’t irritate, and after applying, I’m told I smell like an almond joy 😉 . I can’t seem to go without it, even when I went home for the holidays, I had to buy a travel size coconut oil at Whole Foods.”
Anneliese lived in the room across the hall from mine during freshman and sophomore year at UNC. I wish we had some cute dorm name to throw around like: The girls of Windsor Hall. Unfortunately, we lived in an all-girl dorm called Aycock Hall. The girls of Aycock doesn’t sound so charming does it?…
Her pick: Givenchy Rouge Interdit Vinyl Lipstick – Noir Revelateur No. 16- $34
“I am very low maintenance when it comes to makeup, but I always have my Givenchy Noir lipstick in my purse because it’s so versatile. Whether I’m going to a work meeting or meeting up for a date, this lipstick is always my go to. Don’t let the black color throw you off! It has a nice shine, plumping effect and makes my lips a couple shades darker, all while still looking very natural. My favorite part is that it feels soft and moisturizing like chapstick, but still has all the perks of a lipstick!”
The first time I ever saw Sarah (#stalker) was when I was parking for our first day of orientation at UT. She was getting something out of her trunk and it seemed like her ENTIRE CLOSET was in the car. I swear she pulled a clothes line out. If I remember correctly, she did have her whole life in the car since she was still moving that day. We also has the shortest and sweetest stint as roommates during summer school.
Her pick: Boots No7 Fanominal Lash Serum – $9.99
“Currently obsessed with Boots No7 Fanominal Lash Serum. There are many significantly pricier competitors in the lash space (see: R+F blowing up my newsfeed with before and afters) that I could never pull the trigger on, lest I develop an expensive and unsustainable habit. At $10, I figured no harm, no foul, but the kicker is this actually works! It took about 6 weeks of daily use to see results, but they totally happened. I already have dark brunette lashes, but with the increasingly popular “no make up” aesthetic, they never felt quite lush or long enough. This serum is a game changer! I’m now about four months in and just repurchased.
P.S. no strange eye color or lid side effects on my sensitive skin either”.
Alright, there you have it, 7 all time beauty favorites! I think the most surprising part about this exercise is that I don’t own any of these products. I’m going to have to do a little shopping soon. A huge thank you to my friends for their contributions. And also, to my local friends, a special thank you for graciously participating while I subjected you to posing for at least 60 pictures just so we could find one we all liked. I love you guys!
