When highlighters began gaining popularity a few years ago, I refused to purchase one. I was convinced it was just a gimmick and would just add yet another step to my morning routine… until I actually tried one. Now my face doesn’t feel complete until I use a highlighter. Even on the days when I don’t use any eye make up, I still tend to apply a little highlighter.
Although most people use highlighter to give their face more dimension, I use it (and love it) because it can make people look really healthy. Like your skin is naturally glistening and glowing. And the best part? I find highlighters to be great at multitasking. So, if you are hesitant to buy one, or you want to explore other uses, here are 5 ways you can use your highlighter:
1. To highlight face…obviously
Use it at the top of your cheekbones, bridge of your nose, in your cupid’s bow, etc. Any areas that you want to accentuate.
2. under the brow highlight
I usually prefer a matte shade to clean up my eye brows, but a ton of people use their highlighter under the brow.
3. All over the lid shadow
If you are in a rush or want to keep the products you use to a minimum, you could use your highlighter as an all over lid shade. You can then use your bronzer/contour on your crease for a more defined eye look.
4. To brighten eyes
If you are using other eye shadows for your eye makeup, you can pop in a little highlighter to the center of the lid to make you eye’s pop and look brighter. To make your eyes look ever brighter, apply a little highlighter to the inner corners of your eye (a little being the key word here).
5. To revive your blush
I have a couple of matte blush shades that I love, but if I am going for the more glowy/bronzy look, I use a little highlighter and pat it on top of my blush to give my face more dimension. You could also apply the highlighter on the apples of your cheek first and then apply blush.
If any of you have any other uses for your highlighter, feel free to let me know in the comment section!
