A few weeks ago I mentioned that while my parents were in town my Dad, very generously, bought me this $32 Charlotte Tilbury lipstick he saw me eyeing at Nordstrom. Side note: He first asked me how much it was and I misread the label and told him it was $22. Whoops.
It was my very first Charlotte Tilbury product and after hearing about the brand hyped up so much on YouTube I had high expectations. Plus, at $32 for a lipstick you kinda expect miracles.
I chose the color Nude Kate after swatching a few on the back of my hands. I know, another nude lipstick… But I just can’t help myself. I’m a sucker for a nude lip. Nude Kate is part of the K.I.S.S.I.N.G collection which was inspired by iconic celebrities. In all honesty I thought Kate was Kate Middleton so of course I picked that one. Later I realized that Nude Kate was inspired by Kate Moss. Not that I have anything against Kate Moss, but my heart has a special place for Kate Middleton.
Anyways, these lipsticks have a satin finish and claim to be enriched with anti-oxidants and light-diffusing pigments. There are about 10 shades in the range from the very nude to the deep red shades.
What I like about it
+ The packaging is lovely. It comes in a rose gold tone tube.
+ Formula is very moisturizing and the lipstick glides on really easily. It’s very comfortable to wear.
+ Satin finish is really nice and it does not accentuate any lines on your lips
+ This particular shade is sheer enough that you can really change the color depending on what lip liner you use
What I don’t like about it
+ The shade. I know I just added the shade as a pro above, but there is also a con to the shade! If I don’t use a more rosy/pigmented lip liner under this the color really washes me out. It’s too light of a nude for my skin tone & I wish I would have gone with the Bitch Perfect Shade.
+ $32 price. This is sooo expensive for a lipstick. I know there are even more expensive ones out there (looking at you Tom Ford), but when you can find amazing lipsticks like the Colour Pop Lippie Stix for $5 each it makes it insane to get something this expensive.
Is it worth the hype? I am so sorry to say this because ultimately this was a gift, but no, I do not think it’s worth the hype. With so many affordable alternatives out there I just don’t know how I could justify repurchasing something like this. I am sure I could find a very similar shade in a Colour Pop Lippie Stix in the Satin finish.
Of course I am going to continue using this since I can get such a nice effect if I use a lipliner. But I will not repurchase and it is unlikely that I will pick up another color.
